New Delorean Flying Car Brings us Back to the Future

The DeLorean name is famous among car aficionados thanks to the short lived DMC-12 sports car designed and manufactured by John DeLorean‘s DeLorean Motor Company from 1981–83. And the DeLorean sports car is also a movie icon featured as the souped-up time machine in the Back to the Future movie franchise. As it turns out Jon DeLorean’s nephew Paul has his own aerospace company, and is now working on making flying cars a reality. Paul DeLorean is CEO and chief designer for DeLorean aerospace, which was founded in 2012 to develop a real life flying car. He is trying to create a two-seat vertical take-off and...

New Ultra-Sensitive Blood Test Detects Even Traces of Cancer

Scientists from Stanford University have developed a new blood test, that could be a game changer for doctors to monitor and detect early stage cancers.  The paper published in The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics, describes how the cancer test referred to as a single color digital PCR only needs very small blood draw sample.  The highly sensitive test can detect at least three mutation-bearing molecules in a single reaction. The blood test is designed in such a way that it can be customized, so it recognizes mutations unique to individual cancers. The current blood tests available for doctors to monitor their patients...

A Simple Way to Disrupt Dark Web Drug Marketplaces?

Whatever someones unlawful intentions are, there’s likely a supplier on the dark web or “DarkNet” that can deliver for the right price. The dark web is around 400 to 550 times larger than the World Wide Web, that search engines like Google have indexed.  We recently published an article about how the dark web is becoming a go to place for buying guns or perhaps worse plans for printing plastic guns (as in no metal detection) on 3D printers.  Not surprising that another hot item for sale on the dark web are drugs in this specific case opiates.  Researchers from...

Wearable Clothing Breakthrough Using Flexible Graphene Batteries Printed Onto Fabric

Wearable devices and clothing for health monitoring, fitness, military applications and many other things are a huge high technology trend these days. To be wearable as clothing it must fit comfortably without being heavy, stiff or in anyway bulky, without compromising their usefulness, which is the huge barrier for wearables designers today. Enter graphene, which is a super thin lattice of carbon atoms, with many contrasting properties that make it the darling material of scientists.  It’s visible to the naked eye and makes a perfect barrier for membranes, but just an atom thick, it’s quite flexible yet with diamond...

Goldfish Brew Alcohol to Survive in Frozen Lakes Deprived of Oxygen

As many of you know from personal experience a little alcohol during some winter activity gives a nice sensation of warmth, as blood vessels on the skin’s surface open.  Actually, alcohol doesn’t help raise the body’s temperature and it sure doesn’t help us breathe in an oxygen deprived environment.  Yet somehow goldfish and their wild relatives, crucian carp, can survive for up to months at a time, at the bottom of ice-covered ponds in water deprived of oxygen.  Scientists at the Universities of Oslo and Liverpool have found the secret behind the goldfish’s remarkable ability to survive these harsh frozen...
