Non-Electronic Rover Being Prototyped For Future Venus Exploration Mission

Venus’s extremely hostile surface environment, of crushing atmospheric pressure and temperatures of hundreds of degrees make survival a challenge for man or machine.  Venus is the second largest terrestrial planet and Earth’s closest neighbor, but we have not sent a rover to explore the surface of craters, mountains, volcanoes and big lava plains for good reason.  Sending a rover like the kind that is currently roaming around Mars is just not an option as the electronics onboard would melt almost instantly after landing on the inhospitable surface with 800 degrees Fahrenheit temperature and clouds of sulfuric acid.  The Soviet Venera 13 lander that touched down in...

Two New Studies Back Health Benefits of Chocalate

Most of us love the rich taste of chocolate, but many people are unaware of its amazing health benefits. Cocoa includes polyphenols, are rich in antioxidants and have significant nutritional value.  When an individual has type 2 diabetes, their body either does not produce enough insulin or does not process blood sugar properly. The underlying cause of the disease beyond environmental stresses is a failure of beta cells, that are responsible for producing insulin.  BYU researchers have identified certain compounds found in cocoa that may help delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by increasing the ability to deal with oxidative stress. In the...

Scientists Uncover Hidden Lost Languages at Saint Catherine’s Monastery in Egypt

Saint Catherine’s Monastery was built between 548 and 565, and is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world. Researchers from the Early Manuscripts Electronic Library (EMEL) in California onsite at the monastery have uncovered ancient works hidden underneath monastery scriptures using imaging technology....

Google Chrome Working on Setting to Let You Mute Websites That AutoPlay Videos

Videos that automatically play loudly when you visit many websites and especially those that are just advertisements are a real annoyance when browsing on the internet. But Google’s Chrome browser has added a new feature setting to their beta product called Canary that allows users to permanently mute websites on a per domain basis. Google’s Chrome evangelist François Beaufort announced the addition, noting that the Chrome team is still “experimenting with the setting to mute/unmute a website directly from the Page Info bubble.”  “This will give you more control about which website is allowed to throw sound at you...

Elon Musk’s Supercharging Brain Interface Startup Neuralink is Now Funded

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly said society needs to be more concerned about the development of autonomous weapons as it “threatens to become the third revolution in warfare”.  “If you’re not concerned about AI safety, you should be, vastly more risk than North Korea.” Musk recently tweeted.  The high tech billionaire even sent a new letter co-signed by 115 other experts to the United Nations calling for laws to ban the creation and use of killer robots during conflicts.  And it also so happens that one of Musk’s startup projects now is to create a brain-to-machine interface (project name Neuralink) that would allow the human...
